1.2 Course description
This course will cover the most important features of U.S. patent law. We will focus on patent validity, interpretation, infringement, and remedies. We’ll also devote attention to the basic theoretical and practical justifications for the patent system, the process by which inventors obtain patents, and current issues in U.S. patent policy. No technical background is required.

2.1 Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) for this course
CLO 1 Articulate and apply the core legal rules that determine whether a patent meets the validity requirements of eligibility, utility, novelty, nonobviousness, enablement, written description, and definiteness.
CLO 2 Use standard methodologies for interpreting the meaning of patent claims.
CLO 3 Articulate and apply the core legal rules that determine whether a patent is infringed.
CLO 4 Determine whether a patentee, upon successful suit, can obtain an injunction
CLO 5 Apply the measures of damages used by courts to determine the monetary compensation owed upon infringement.
